OUR TAKE

“Monstruosus has taken the humble planter and elevated it to an art form. Inspired by images of planters in the legendary Case Study Houses, these elegant shapes feel timeless."

NEED TO KNOW

  • Monstruosus takes its name from a genetically deformed species of cactus
  • “I realized the planter was an object that had been sort of left behind, and decided it was time to reincorporate it into the design conversation—and let it tell some stories of its own.” says founder Sam Bigio
  • a Herman Miller alumnus, Sam was inspired by the pottery he saw in photographs of California’s Case Study Houses

We are Monstruosus; we craft simple, purposeful, indoor and outdoor slip-cast clay planters.  Our designs honor a strong lineage of ceramic craftsmanship with timeless proportions of the world’s best architecture.

Good Design is central to who we are with planters that stand the test of time and trends. Each of our models is patiently handcrafted by skilled casters able to work in a variety of scales and myriad custom finishes. Monstruosus planters are designed as simple and purposeful. We thoughtfully craft ceramics for discerning plant-lovers and above all, take pride in the quality of our craftsmanship and our pieces. Made by humans. Made to last.

Our designs honor a strong lineage of ceramic craftsmanship with timeless proportions of the world’s best architecture.
