“It’s difficult to separate the form from the material in Thoreen's designs as they so elegantly coalesce to create his lights, furniture and sculptural elements. His deft hand gives industrial materials an unexpectedly luxurious feel.”
Brian Thoreen is an American designer and artist who lives and works between Los Angeles and Mexico City. He creates functional and nonfunctional works that gather their ethos from the rudimentary nature of the materials within the application.
Focusing on material, in its mostly unaltered states ranging from untreated brass to industrial rubber to marble, Thoreen’s works develop unexpected channels of application and existence. Ideas are filtered through the lenses of emotion, playfulness and humor into deeply intentional forms that share a dedication to purpose and technique.
Thoreen is represented by Patrick Parrish Gallery, New York, and MASA Galeria, Mexico City, and is a founder of the glass collective Vissio. His work has been featured in Architectural Digest, Interview, the Wall Street Journal, Double Magazine, among many others, and is included in many prominent collections internationally.
